VDI Engineer

The Automobile Club of Southern California is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual with a minimum of five years enterprise experience in Citrix VDI implementations and administration to join the VDI DevOps Team. As VDI DevOps Engineer, the candidate will ensure the reliability, stability, and availability of the entire VDI infrastructure in a 24/7 production environment. This position will be responsible for design, planning, installation, configuration, on-going support, and maintenance within a multi-site environment.

The ideal candidates will possess hands on experience in the following areas. 

  • Remote Desktop Services installation, configuration, and Licensing.

  • Knowledge and hands on experience deploying Citrix gateways on NetScaler appliances to provide VDI accesses to both Internal and external users; VIPs, SNIPs, GSLB, Authentication, Policies etc.

  • Installing, Upgrading, Patching and Troubleshooting the vSphere environment.

  • vSwitches, Distributed vSwitches, Port Groups and VMkernel Ports for Networking the virtual environment as an integral part of the VDI infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive working knowledge and experience in Citrix Enterprise VDI Infrastructure design, Planning, Configuration, and Installation of XenDesktop and XenApp

  • A minimum of five years' experience supporting a multi-site Citrix VDI environment, including Maintaining, Upgrading and Expanding as required

  • Experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and maintaining; StoreFront servers, Desktop Delivery Controllers, Citrix License Server, Citrix WEM Servers, and ADM Appliances

  • Installation and configuration of Citrix SDX and VPX appliances

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft AD

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft operating systems, Workstation, and Server

  • Experience deploying non-persistent and persistent virtual workstations and servers. Using Citrix PVS and MCS technologies

  • Strong profile management skills leveraging GPOs, Citrix policies and Citrix Profile Manager

  • Experience with GPOs and Citrix policies for baselining, securing, and optimizing a Citrix VDI enterprise environment

  • Experience in Citrix Provisioning services, Installation and Configuration, vDisk creation and maintenance, Device collections and Store configurations

  • Good working knowledge of networking services; TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SSH, PXE, SFTP, TFTP, BOOTP, HTTPS

  • SSL Certificate installation and management on Windows, Linux devices and third-party appliances

  • Good PowerShell scripting knowledge for leveraging the Citrix cmdlets

  • Highly proficient in VMware vSphere 6.7/7.x (vCenter and ESXi)  

  • Experience in vSphere DRS, HA, vMotion and Resource pools

  • Good knowledge of vSphere Affinity groups and Rules

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Key Success Factors:

  • Four-year college degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field or equivalent work experience

  • Hands on experience with Nutanix HCI

  • Citrix Cloud experience for the Control Plane

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with thin clients and desktop migration projects

  • Ability to identify and mitigate potential security related risks

  • Detail-oriented, security conscious, and proficient in troubleshooting

  • Strong communication skills to provide for effective documentation and communication to senior management

  • Efficiently diagnose and troubleshoot VDI issues around performance, access, and usability

  • After-hours support rotation and implementation as needed
